Mark 6:46
“And when he had sent them away , he departed into a mountain to pray.

People talk about prayer, but they pray very little. There is a great emphasis in the Word of God placed on the subject of prayer.

Life gets busy. It gets so busy is that we don’t take time for our priorities. One of our biggest priorities is prayer, and it often gets left behind in the busyness of life. Christ took time to pray, He oftentimes went into the desert or the mountain to pray.

The word ‘prayer’ is mentioned 109 times in the Word of God; ‘pray’ is mentioned 310; ‘prayed’ is mentioned 65 times. That equals 484 references to prayer in the Bible! There is a lot in the Bible on prayer. We could spend a lot of time just looking at verses on prayer.

God records several people who prayed and what their prayer did.

In Genesis 20:17, Abraham prayed and God healed Abimelech and opened the womb of his wife and maidservants.

Moses had such a prayer life that he stayed the judgments of God from the people of Israel. I wonder if we could stay the judgment of the hand of God upon America because of our prayer life? I wonder if we could stay the hand of God upon a friend, or upon a loved one? In Numbers 11:2, “And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.”

Hannah prayed that she would receive a child from the Lord, and the Lord heard her cry. I Samuel 1:27 “For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:”

Prayer changed things in the lives of these people. There may have been no Samuel, if it was not for the prayer of Hannah. There may have been no seed from Abimelech if it had not been for the prayer of Abraham. There may have been no Israel if had not been for the prayer of Moses.

What can your prayer change today? One person, one country? Prayer changes things.
